Abalone Markets and Pricing:

Explosion in Farm Production Hits the Asian Market

  • South Africa now world's 3rd largest producer. Prices compete with (or exceed) wild catch countries.
  • China absorbs its own massive production, yet imports from many producing countries in fresh, frozen and processed form.
  • Korea premium abalone farm production has exploded in the last few years. In the past Korea has absorbed its production - now pushing hard for sales to China, Japan, elsewhere.
  • Demand will absorb production - the fallout is price.
  • Selling prices suffer: Live, Fresh, Frozen, Processed
  • Wholesale Prices vary widely by Species, Size and Form to Market. ($10/Kilo to $50/Kilo+)
